India created history with their magnificent six-wicket victory over England at Chennai on Monday - their first ever winning total of 300-plus in the fourth innings of a Test in India.
India's successful run-chase is the highest ever total by any team in the fourth innings of a Test match in the sub-continent - for the first time, a total of 300-plus has been recorded in the fourth innings of a Test on Indian soil to register a win, outstripping the previous best of 276 for 5 by West Indies against India in the 1987-88 Delhi Test.
Before the 2008-09 Chennai Test, the highest fourth innings total on Indian soil was India's 364 for six (target 390) against Pakistan at Delhi in 1979-80.
India's total of 387 for four is the fourth highest winning total in the fourth innings of a Test - the top three being 418 for 7 by West Indies against Australia at St.John's in 2002-03, 406 for 4 by India against West Indies at Port of Spain in 1975-76 and 404 for 3 by Australia against England at Leeds in 1948.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni, with the Chennai triumph, has extended his record, becoming the first Indian captain to have recorded victories in his first four Tests - vs South Africa at Kanpur in 2007-08, vs Australia at Mohali and Nagpur and vs England at Chennai in 2008-09.
